You have the YL Starter Kit-Now What?

This post is to all out there who have their kit, but want to know what they can do with it! I will go over  , and tools that are oh-so helpful in getting the most out of YL’s oils, additional oils that are must haves to try next, and my favorite/daily uses for the oils in the kit!

Tools for the Oil User

By far the most important tool you can have as a new oil lover is to buy either the Reference Guide for Essential Oils Soft Cover 2014 or Hard Cover 2014! Or if you prefer, check out this book in app form for Android/Google and App format for iphone! This reference guide will help you through your oils. It not only shares with you the chemistry of how oils work, but they also tell the main purposes of each oil and blend and you can also look up your ailment and see which oils can support you. This is a must!

refguide

Next, I love to store/display all my oils in this Nail Polish Rack on my counter top. I am sure you could put one of these in your cabinets too.

my growing collection!

my growing collection!

You MUST get a glass water bottle to take full advantage of ingesting certain oils to support your health! I recommend Ello 20-oz Glass Water Bottle with Silicone Sleeve (Pink Squares) but there are tons of glass water bottles around (Target has some cute ones too).

These Roll on Glass Bottles are a must have. I use them to stretch my oils! ** It’s important to use tinted glass bottles as they block the UV rays from scrambling the molecules in the essential oils, therefore making them less effective. You can find brown, blue, purple and the ones above are green.

These 2 oz are a must have for making your own sprays and other concoctions you come up with. You can get all sizes. I use the 2 oz mostly, but 4oz are great for sunscreen, the 16 oz would be good for house cleaning products or things you use a lot of! the 1oz are great to carry on the go!

I use babyfood jars for my creams but if you don’t have those handy, I would get Medium Amber Glass Jar for your homemade rubs like my facial cream, ZZZ massage cream, or respiratory support cream. If you want to make creams and such to give away, I would encourage using these 2 oz. Round Favor Tins .

New Must Have Oils to Try:

I love cedarwood in a diffuser (3 drops) to promote a restful sleep. I put in roller bottle (20 drops) and rub bottoms of feet to help concentration, clear head and focus, even for your littles who need help with this during school time. Only $11 for a large bottle (15ML or 240 drops)!

R.C. is a great blend to support healthy chest, nasal and sinues! I diffuse when we are stuffed up. I rub on areas that need to loosen up! Only $10 for a small bottle (5ML or 80 drops)

Peace and Calming is WONDERFUL for promoting a sense of calm among your children. When they are wild, I diffuse this. Also, in Grace’s nursery, I diffuse every night 2 drops, plus 2 drops of lavender! $15 or so for a small bottle. TEMPORARILY UNAVAILABLE

DiGize is a must have. I LOVE it for supporting our digestive system! It helps to alleviate bloating, excessive gas, nausea, that stuffed feeling or pressure, and relief of occasional heartburn. I just put my finger on the top of the bottle and rub under my tongue. I have it in a roller bottle, diluted with olive oil too and rub on kid’s tummies  $33 for a large bottle.

Favorite Uses from the oils in my Premium Starter Kit:

Honestly, I sat on these oils for like 6 months or so before I started using them consistently. I am so glad I finally broke open the goodness and used them!

Lavender is a commonly used on for us! We use this oil for diffusing when we want to promote peace, calming, relaxing, etc. We also use it for any booboos or imperfections on our skin. It also relieves

Melaluca (AKA Tea Tree Oil) has been used daily for me in my homemade face lotion (recipe blog coming soon!)! I hear it’s great for anything… cleaning, skin support, flaky or itchy skin, and so much more!

Peppermint is so awesome. This is such a great “wake me up” oil! I love huffing it when I need a jolt, also use for nasal blockage, head discomfort, gas and upset tummies, backed up digestive system, regulating high body temps, and a breath refresher

Frankincense is a very expensive oil so we try to use this last, but it is wonderful for so many things! Warts, skincare, wrinkles, mood booster, but, by far, my favorite use for this oil is using it to pray over people. Matt and I have opened our home up for a place people can come and receive our prayers. I usually anoint their head with frankincense while we pray over them. It’s been so powerful to see God’s healing power through prayer and oils!

Lemon is awesome for adding to homemade cleaning supplies, immune boosting for babies under two (since thieves is too strong for them!), detoxifying your body while drinking in water, adding it to honey and hot water for a mucus-busting morning drink, taking any sticky away (I used it to remove stuck on labels off of glass jars!), uplifting smell in diffuser and used in a powerful seasonal discomfort blend with lavender and peppermint!

Panaway has not been used very often… just when we have bumps and bruises, or when someone runs into something else and gets a huge welt-that’s when rolling panaway (like 10 drops in one of these bottles filled with olive or almond oil) on the spot of discomfort takes the pain away and oftentimes a bruise never shows up!

Joy has not been used very often. I have diffused it a couple of times, but it is just so strong it’s still hard for me to take! I want to dilute it in one of these bottles and cross it over my heart as a perfume of sorts. I will let you know how it goes! Anyone have another use for Joy they want to share??

Citrus Fresh is so yummy! Drink in GLASS cup/bottle to hydrate, drink in hot water for yummy start to morning, helps with memory recall, diffuse for uplifting smell!

Purification doesn’t smell so great to me so I don’t use this one often. Diffuse to get rid of nasty smells, add 10 drops per 2 oz of distilled water to glass spray bottle and spray on gross smells (furniture, carpet, curtains, etc).

Stress Away is probably one of my favorites. I slather it on my wrists and neck like perfume, especially when I feel anxious, stressed or overwhelmed (ahem… like every day). I just used the roller filament that comes with the premium starter kit and popped it on this bottle! PLEASE watch this video about how to apply the roller on your bottles and how to take it off! The first time I tried, the bottle spilled and a lot of oil was wasted

thieves

Thieves is probably and all time favorite of most oil users out there! I diffuse this one daily, especially after school as we all bring home yuck from school and work and daycare. I rub it on our feet to boost our immune system when one of us starts getting sick symptoms, numbing throats, and we make our own immune boosting spray with it (among many others!).

***Blend equal drops lemon, lavender and peppermint in diffuser to alleviate scratchy eyes, throat, nose, etc). You can also use 6 drops of each in roller bottles filled with carrier oil of your choice and apply ‘raccoon eyes’ on your face and down your neck by your ears.

Your Home Diffuser is easy to work! Press once for it to diffuse constantly, press twice for it to alternate 30 seconds on and 30 seconds off, and press and hold down if you want the light to go off on either setting.

Why Young Living Brand Essential Oils?

First of all, sometimes it is better to spend more up front to enjoy a greater benefit. Like our kitchen table for example. I could buy a new table from Overstock.com or invest in a handmade, solid wood table that will last you forever. Well when I first started, I thought deals were all that mattered (they DO in fact matter). BUT what I eventually realized is that a few high quality is better than tons of low quality.

YL's Lavender Farm

YL’s Lavender Farm

Enter Essential Oils. I feel like if you want results, more than just fragrance, high quality and purity are a must. Oils have healing properties-that penetrate your body on a cellular level! I believe that God loves us passionately and gives us what we need to live a healthy life. He has created plans and animals to aid in our health and prosperity! And with essential oils, their healing properties are intelligently designed with a purpose.

For example-if you have an infection, you would take antibiotics to kill the bad bacteria. But when you take antibiotics, it kills all bacteria, including the good stuff (flora and whatnot in your intestines that aids in overall health and immunity support). But certain oils can be used to kill off bad bacteria (AND VIRUSES!) without killing off the good stuff. All living things have DNA-including plants. God has given these plans a program to carry out (their DNA).

I can bank of the quality if Young Living essential oils. Comparatively, they are more expensive than others, but I could not count on the purity and quality (therefore results). One drop of YL oils would go further than several drops of other stuff. Plus I love the company and what they stand for!

All a part of the Seed to Seal guarantee

All a part of the Seed to Seal guarantee

Not only is quality and purity important and worth the extra money, but young living company is doing such wonderful thing for impoverished countries and they practice good business. I have friends who have traveled to Utah and seen the farms and distilleries first hand. Read about their Seed to Seal promise to families or even how the founder, Gary Young uses his farms in foreign countries to provide jobs and educate it’s people-Some serious humanitarian stuff right there 🙂

All I know is, I see YL oils like that solid wood piece of furniture-worth every penny! To read more ways to save money on these awesome oils, click here.

Essential Oils for the Budget Minded

I grew up one of nine kids so money never flowed freely in my house growing up. I am so grateful for this because I have always known the value of a dollar.

homeschooled...

aaaand yes we were homeschooled. Be kind. This WAS the 90s 🙂

Now that I run our household, I try to coupon, price match with weekly circulars, stretch our food and toiletries, make my own stuff, etc. For the last year, I have heard a ton about essential oils and how much easier they can make your life! But the good oils are quite expensive especially when you are on a tight budget. SO I wanted to share with you three main ways to save money with essential oils: 1. Go with the good stuff 2. Stretch your Oils 3. Find your supplies at the right stores 4. You save in doctor bills and over the counter medicines. …   Go with the Good Stuff First of all, I choose to use Young Living essential oils because of quality, potency, purity, business practices and the integrity of the creators/owners. You get the best results with high quality oil like this! You would have to use much more off brand oil to get the same results. Read more on why I choose YL. everydayoilspic BUT, because of the potency of YL oils, I hardly ever (if ever) use it neat (which means without being mixed with a carrier oil). I almost always use my oils mixed with either olive oil or coconut oil. Carrier oils not only help your oils to last longer, but they help spread the oils to reach further.

Stretch your Oils Here are some roller bottles that I use-they save you money! So not only are you using your carrier oil to stretch your oh-so-potent essential oils, but the roller spreads it on evenly so it can spread the oil further (one drop of oil can be spread across 4 ft! I buy the tinted glass ones because the clear ones let UV light through, which can actually make the teeny tiny molecules of the essential oils (the ones that are small enough to penetrate and treat you on a cellular level) bigger and therefore less effective. I of course learned this after purchasing like 40 clear ones… oh well! I use these rollers for my allergy stick, sleepy stick, and calm down stick. They are great if you want to mix a few of your oils together, or just highlight one, like my Frankie stick. We love frankincense for so many reasons, but it is one of the most expensive ones, so we usually dilute it in olive oil to stretch it. Matt usually wears his as cologne or as a great mood booster.

S T R E T C H YOUR DOLLARS!

S T R E T C H YOUR DOLLARS!

Where to Shop for Supplies? It’s easy to get overwhelmed and spend spend spend on supplies for your oils. I would suggest starting small with a few rollers until you get the hang of things and see the health benefits of what you are doing. I use these rollers and I just use Organic Extra Virgin Olive Oil . The thing with essential oils is, you MUST buy glass. This is because essential oils will eat away plastic-just watch what citrus oil can do to Styrofoam! Then I would purchase spray bottles and jars.  The cheapest place I can find for all my glass bottles, jars, etc is Abundant Health. And if you know other oil users or people who want to start-the best way is to buy in bulk! You can get some serious discounts and save on shipping!! Using coconut oil is a must for essential oils ‘creams’! If you have a Costsco membership, you can usually find it cheapest there. But if you are like me and spend wayyyyyy to much money when you walk in Costco, you can find it online here or if you participate in the food drop, Azure Standard, that is by far the cheapest route to go.  I cook with it too so we order a lot of it! For all the bottles, I wrap just plain ol’ masking tape around it and label the oil with a sharpie. Eventually you could order lip balm tubes, metal jars to sell or gift and make money that way! In fact, if you are interested in sharing the oily love with others, with Young Living, you can potentially get paid to use their oils. Unlike most companies, the more people you tell about your oils and get them to sign up under you, you can get a commission off of their mutual love for oils. You could potentially get your oils for free!

Save on co-pays and pharmacy! Certain times of year are the WORST for your bank account because your kids bring home any and every virus, flu, cold, pink eye, etc that’s out there! Read about our “sickagedon” last fall. We spent over $2000 over Sept and Oct in co-pays ($20 each time!), medicine and a hospital trip for my poor, de-hydrated Mikey! To think of the money we could have saved (and trauma avoided!) using EOs…. Since we have started using oils, we have not gone to the doctor once. Not once. Well yes, once-but that was for a well visit and we didn’t have to pay for those! We have seen EOs help with stuffy noses, headaches, respiratory probs, and dropped a few fevers and are in the process of helping a UTI and sinus probs for the hubby! I have banished my plantar wart (ew!), helped with sleep for all of us, my heartburn, headaches, Matt’s snoring, anti-itch for bug bites, healed bruises overnight and the list. Goes. On. So that’s it! That is how I actually SAVE money using Essential Oils, PLUS I feel better giving my family safer and more natural ways to heal.
