God’s Gift

If you know me in real life, you know that I am slightly obsessed with Chick-Fil-A… I love that restaurant for many reasons, their beliefs, their customer service, how they have fresh flowers on the tables every single day, how they bring your meal when you have your hands full of children, how they say, “It’s my pleasure!” instead of boring old “Thank You.” Well on October 16th, 2014, I added a new reason to love Chick-Fil-A, that’s where my water broke when I was hugely pregnant with Grace.

Matt, Ben, Jojo and I walk into Chick-Fil-A for lunch that afternoon, seeking to fulfill my hankerin’ for some quality chicken strips, waffle fries and a lemonade, when all of the sudden I peed a little… but I did not give my bladder permission… soooooo this must mean that my water broke…

I didn’t even get to order my food. Literally, I walked in and… gush. So I told matt, we went back into the car (and proceeded through the drive thru because, c’mon, mama wanted her meal…). We got our food and drove quickly home to gather our belongings, and get a fresh pair of pants!

My contractions did not begin, nor did they until 9pm that evening with the help of pitocin. I was tired of waiting for Grace and she did not seem to want to come out, so we gave her some help. My big time contractions started around 9:45pm and I was ready! This was my first birth with essential oils, so I got some Peace and Calming blend and Cederwood (one to help me chill and the other to help oxygenate my cells) and they helped me deal with the pitocin contractions naturally. Gosh it all went so fast! At 11:16, my Grace entered the world. She was a little peanut! 7 lbs, 6 oz of dainty femininity, so much smaller than my nearly 9 pound boys! I gave her some slimy squeezins and cried with relief and gratitude! My baby girl was safe in my arms. She was finally here!

The word Grace as so many meanings… from Merriam-Websters’s online:

Honestly, I love every definition of that word. I was hoping because her name was Grace and she was my fourth, that we would have an easy time with her, that she would be an easy baby. But, she was not. She challenged our sanity, patience, and ability to run without multiple nights of sleep. But she smiled the whole time! Although she was a high maintenance baby, she was a happy baby!

I wrote a guest blog on the St. Joseph Education center’s website about our struggles we faced/face and the gift we got from it.
