Stitch Fix Numero Uno

Stitch Fix #1

Hi Everyone! Sorry it’s been months since I updated my blog. I have decided to cut down time at St. Joseph’s Parish and step down as the DRE there. I will be migrating my focus towards Confirmation Prep and Youth Ministry from now on, which frees me up to exclusively work from home and be with may babies full time! Truly a dream come true! I will just go in on Wed nights around 3:30pm to be with my people at St. Joseph’s!

More about me and life at home later… let’s get to the clothes!

It’s August, so I decided to treat myself to my very first Stitch Fix, a styling program where you sign up after filling out a fashion profile and a stylist chooses 5 items, especially picked for you, and ships them to your house (free shipping too!). You try them all on, then if you like all 5, you get a 25% off each item! If you don’t choose any, it’s just a $20 styling fee. And if you decide to keep less than 5 items (or even just one!), the $20 styling fee goes towards one of your items.

So here is my Stitch Fix #1 (all photo credits go to my 7-year old, Mikey!… not too shabby, eh?)

I loved the dress! But I felt like it was a smidge too short... but maybe i just don't know how to wear maxi dresses...

I loved the dress! But I felt like it was a smidge too short… but maybe i just don’t know how to wear maxi dresses…

dressandscarf

Here is the scarf they sent with it. I love the scarf-very pretty! But I am not sure if I would wear it with everything. It’s of little birdies! Not sure it’s worth spending $28 on either…

shirtandjjeans

I really loved the jeans they sent. They are both long and comfortable, while still being flattering. That’s a rare find so I am for sure keeping the jeans. I loved this shirt too! Super light and comfortable and pretty. And it hides the mom pooch. A super plus for me. Still debating on whether to keep it ($44!).

shirt2

Here is the back view of the jeans and shirt. I love the details on the shirt here. What do you all think??

shirt1

Here is the last item in my shipment! I was actually surprised at how well this fit me. It looked rather shapeless in the box. I liked this, but wasn’t too crazy about the colors. So I don’t think I’ll be keeping this one. What do you think?

THOUGHTS: so overall, I thought it was a fun experience! I loved how the stylist really listened to my concerns (lose fitting tops to hide my mom pooch, and still fun). I also requested a hot date night dress which I think she nailed. My only complaint was the price. I am a clearance rack type a gal, so I knew that the prices would be more than I was used to. But I guess I was still sticker shocked a bit. But honestly, with 4 little ones, I think if you take into account the time it takes to shop for quality stuff, the convenience of 5 great items chosen and shipped to you for free really does make the price a little more reasonable. For all 5 items after the 25% would have been about $186, which isn’t horrible.

So there it is! Have you tried Stitch Fix before? What did you think? If you want to give it a try, please use my referral link here so I can get some credit! Thanks!

Is it just me…

… or is Instagram ruining my life.

Hello, my name is Stacy, I am addicted to Facebook. I think it’s the extrovert in me. Maybe I just like creeping on my friends/acquaintances. Maybe I just don’t want to feel left out. Either way, checking my FB was distracting me from my prayer life and spending quality time with my family. SO I gave it up for lent… or so I tried.

I basically sucked this lent and sneaked (snuck?) Facebook on and off throughout those 40 days. I tried to do other (more productive) things like reading the readings for the day, or cleaning (hahaha) or blogging. I did fairly well until I re-discovered Instagram. Then I really started to like Instagram again and started wasting time on that (rinse and repeat right?). But I noticed another negative effect from Instragram other than misuse of time: Jealousy.

I am usually not a jealous person. In fact, I am usually very content with myself, my children, my husband, my life. But there is something about Instagram that got me. Maybe it was the quality, natural light infused pictures of fashionably accessorized toddlers, or successful shabby chic home décor makeovers, or sun-kissed selfies of peers vacationing in exotic, far off destinations. But I found myself and what I hold dear fading in to the background of other people’s best insta-moments.

Theodore Roosevelt’s wise words, “Comparison is the thief of joy” never rang truer. I started to become less satisfied with our financial situation because I wanted to buy all of the adorable hand-made girly accessories for my babies. Or decorate Grace’s nursery to show off to my friends, or travel sans kids to the Caribbean.  But because Matt and I are trying to get out of student loan debt and just graduated Financial Peace University, I was shielded from giving into my financial whims, knowing our financial debt-free future is more important.

So needless to say, I don’t get on Instagram as much. And when I do and that green-eyed monster starts to growl, I name that feeling aloud, asking Jesus to take my jealousy and to transform it to gratitude. My dependence on God’s power to transform death into life, and drawing me outside of myself will always be a solid wall I lean on.

So although my social media addictions are still present (albeit lessened), this lent showed me that like the sun breaking through the clouds on a stormy day, the power of God and His resurrection will break through my insecurities, promising warmth and contentment in the life He has chosen for me.

Some Helpful Hints on Raising Boys…

If you are raising a boy (or three), here are some tips that may be helpful for you.

  1. Get Down with your Imagination. Boys are so wonderfully creative and come up with the craziest stuff! Play scenarios, bad guy names (Shrunka and Randy who were at one point Jojo’s imaginary friends?!), plots, weapons (a red blanket is a weapon of tomato sauce apparently), and survival skills… all of these things starting at the age of 3?! I just run with it. Matt plays this game where he is ‘under attack by 50 bad guys’ and the three boys will be hiding in the other room until Dad yells for help, then they all come storming in, air nunchucks blasting. Sometimes we can overhear them coming up with their attack plan. It’s hilarious… watch a snippet here... and yes Jojo actually uses a stuffed squid for a weapon 🙂
  2. Get used to that smell. Remember that day when your sweet little boy was pushed out of you and hoisted into your arms. Remember when he smelled amazing? When his sweet little head smelled of baby and breast milk, not sweat and hints of wet dog? I would guess that they smell really good for like 2-3 years… then they start to stink…. So make bath time fun for them, so they’ll want to bathe and wash that “little boy smell” off them for a while. My youngest boy is 3 now and he sometimes smells good still. But for the most part, I just sniff my baby girl for my baby smell fix.
  3. Clean toilets daily. Urine. Is. Everywhere. Do boys not care where it goes?? Like aim for God’s sake! I am pretty sure at night when they are half awake, if they don’t pee in their beds (it’s happened on rare occasion out of pure laziness I would guess), they actually make it to the potty and simply pull down their underwear and let ‘er rip, like no aim-age what so ever. The evidence is that scent from our upstairs kids’ bathroom. Three boys worth of pee wafting across the upstairs illustrates their lack of aim (and pee wiping-up skills). Please someone tell me it’s not just our boys?!?
  4. Stalk their bathroom habits. After every time they go to the bathroom, you must ask them: Did you wipe, did you flush and did you wash your hands WITH SOAP AND WATER? I am pretty sure we have to be super specific here because otherwise they would do none of the above. So yuck.
  5. Since we’re on the topic of all things potty, get use to potty humor. If you want to make a car full of boys laugh, just say poop, farts, or diapers and they will crack up, or at least my boys will. Likewise, if you have a class clown like mine, they will tell ‘jokes’ that involve a potty word and not a whole lot of wit besides that. Example: “Why did the chicken cross the road, because he pooped his pants.” Seriously if you want to make your 2-7 year old boy laugh, tell him that ‘joke’.
  6. Carry a jar or cup or water bottle in your car at all times. In the last 6 months (having a 7 year old, 4 year old, and 3 year old…) I have had a pee emergence at least once a week. Seriously folks, one of my three boys all of the sudden hast to pee AND CANT WAIT. And usually I am getting on the highway or something. So I usually have an empty cup, water bottle, jar, or baby diaper for them to pee into while I am driving. I think they think it’s normal to pee in the car by now.
  7. Embrace Play fighting. I blame the ninja turtles. No matter what, if you have boys, I am willing to bet they want to ‘fight the bad guys!’ and kick each other, wrestle, punch, etc. In the Halbach House, we let them as long as they play nice and stop when someone tells them too. I think boys honestly learn though physical interaction like this.

  8. Pure their eyes. Boys are under attack in our culture in many ways. Because these sweet creatures are visually stimulated, what they watch can really affect them. Like watching even play violence (see number 6!). But there are also things that aren’t the purest like words they hear like disrespectful kids on TV shows, or dinosaurs ripping each other apart in Netflix dinosaur movies, or even weapons and killing creatures on Minecraft can expose our little sweeties to some impurity. Although I don’t expect to shield them completely from all of this, I hope to teach them to, “pure their eyes”. This is a new verb Mikey came up with after reading/listening to this book, The Squire and the Scroll. It made me cry the first time I read it (surprise surprise, I cry at everything!) because it was the perfect story to teach boys that there are a lot of things in this world that can trick you and hurt you, so you must learn to protect your heart and “pure your eyes, ears and heart”.

There are so many more I am sure… but this is it for now.

What are some tips for raising boys you have??

Wanna Get your YL Oils for free?

Do you love your essential oils?
Do you find yourself using them often?
Dying to try all different kinds for free?
Do you want to learn more about YL Essential oils?
Do you feel comfortable talking to people (friends, family, etc)?
Do you want to earn money for sharing these oils?

If you have said yes to most of these, then I think you are ready to venture into the business side of young living. You don’t have to be an expert with this stuff to start. God knows I am STILL learning and will be forever! I decided in October (2014) to really try out the earning potential of this awesome company and from November’s commission checks until now I have earned at least $100 paycheck each month! I use most of that towards my YL purchase and have been able to try tons of different oils, blends and other products YL has to offer.

You see, the first 6 months to a year (or much shorter if you want to jump in with both feet!) of starting the business side of things, you are really just learning… and sharing occasionally. I love that there is NO PRESSURE! You don’t have to sell a certain amount; you don’t even have to order a certain amount (although most people who start are enrolled in Essential Rewards which is an autoship program of 50 PV a month). You can try sharing and getting paid, and if you don’t like it, just return to being a wholesale customer! No penalties or anything!

So let’s say you are interested… what would be your first few steps?

First of all, get to know the compensation plan

Second of all, contact someone in your upline to help you get started. If I am in  you upline, contact me! I will send you lots of advice and goodies, like a binder that teaches you how to start giving classes! Even if you don’t feel comfortable teaching yet, just start sharing how much you love your oils on social media or in real life. Oftentimes, people will see you with your oils and ask you questions, and just by answering, you are beginning a relationship with them! Sometimes those people will want to sign up. When they do, walk them through the sign up process using your member ID in the sponsor and enroller ID spots in the sign up page. If they order a premium starter kit (the best way to get started!) you earn $50! Just. Like. That.

That’s how I have gotten all my oils and young living products for FREE for the last 8 months!

If you want to give this thing a try, contact me asap!

Young Living’s Compensation Plan 101

I want to take a sec and explain the compensation plan and how all this works. This gets more complicated as you exceed in rank… but let’s go over some basics.
When you sign up as a YL wholesale customer, you are automatically the rank of distributor. This means you can enroll people under you as wholesale customers, and you get paid not only for enrolling them, but also get commissions off of their orders!

compplan

If someone signs up under (by going to the sign up page and entering your member ID in the sponsor and enroller ID spots), you get $25 AND for the first three months after you sign someone up, you can earn the Fast Track Bonus, which is 25% of their orders! After the first three months, you only earn 8% of their orders.

IN ORDER TO RECEIVE A PAYCHECK, you need to order at least 50PV* for the first three months of signing someone up. After their three months are up, you need to place a 100PV or more to qualify.

*PV stands for Personal Value. This is pretty much dollar value but not always. Things like starter kits, samples, product guides and other things don’t usually have the same PV.

Lost yet? You can always call me and I can explain this over the phone too! 🙂

But I will try to flush this out a bit more…For example, let’s say my mom is interested in oils… we talk a bit and I show her the oils I love. She says she wants to sign up and it’s during the month of March. I bring her to YL member sign up page and put my member ID in the Sponsor ID and Enroller ID spots on that page. She fills out her information, adds $50PV more to her order and checks out. She will have spent $150 on the PSK and $50 in additional product. But because the Premium Starter Kit is only 100PV (and not 150), I will only earn 25% of her PV, not of the total amount she spends. SO, I will earn $25 for signing a new person up AND 25% of 100+50), which would be a total of $62.50. In order to get that check, I would need to place an order of at least 50 PV.

Now, let’s say that it’s now June and I enroll Sally… She orders the Premium Starter Kit (100pv) and $100 in other product. And my mom orders $150. I would earn $75 from Sally but only $12 from my mom (because it was the 4th month after she signed up so only 8% of her PV). To qualify for my commissions, I would need to buy at least 50PV for Sally’s portion, but in order to maximize my commissions (from Sally and my mom) I would need to place an order of at least 100PV… Which means you would spend $100 in product and get $87 back (which is like buying product 87% off!).

As you start adding more people, and growing, things get a little more complicated. But this is just to give you a heads up on how things will begin 🙂

If you are still confused, seriously call me or email me! My Upward Drops Page has all my contact info!
